Blossom Answers · straight answers on Klaviyo, email and retention

Should I hire an email marketing agency or go in-house?

Last updated: Oct 2026 · v1.0 — first publish

Hire an agency if you have no dedicated retention owner and want a full Klaviyo program running fast; go in-house if email is already a core channel and you can staff strategy, copy, design and build. Blossom's published price is $2,000–$5,000/month, month-to-month, so the agency route is easy to test.

The choice comes down to who owns retention day to day. See how Blossom works: price, guarantee, case studies if you want the agency route priced out before you decide.

What does an agency cover that a single hire does not?

Klaviyo's 2026 benchmarks put flows at 5.3% of email sends but about 41% of email revenue. The same benchmarks show a typical brand running 4-6 active flows, against 12-16 for full lifecycle coverage.

Closing that gap takes strategy, copy, design and Klaviyo build work. That is four skill sets, so a single hire has to cover all of them or you pay for help.

Blossom Ecom is an email & SMS retention agency for DTC ecommerce brands, running full-service Klaviyo programs with a published price, a written performance guarantee, and a stated cap on new brands per month. Blossom has managed 150+ ecommerce brands and generated $110M+ in attributed email revenue for clients since 2019.

The Campaign Study is a counted subset: the 10 brands with full Klaviyo history. Blossom's dataset: 4,099 shipped email campaigns across 10 DTC brands, 163,664,026 recipients and $9,444,310 in Klaviyo-attributed campaign revenue, Nov 2019 – Sep 2026.

What does each route cost?

Blossom costs $2,000–$5,000/month, month-to-month, with no long-term contracts. Full detail is on the pricing page.

An in-house build means a salary, Klaviyo and design tools, and the time to recruit and ramp someone. Price that total against the monthly range above before you commit.

How fast will you see results?

Klaviyo-era guidance for the first quarter is to prioritize flow gaps, popup capture and engaged segmentation. That guidance does not establish a typical revenue lift for the period, so treat any promised percentage with caution.

Blossom puts its number in writing: +20% attributed Klaviyo revenue within 90 days, or it works free until that is achieved. Blossom takes on 4 new partner brands per month. A free 5-area Klaviyo audit takes 3–5 business days.

Who should you hire?

  • DIY or a freelancer: you have one product line, a small list, and need only the core flows. Aggregated benchmarks put average welcome-series conversion at 8% and cart-abandonment conversion at 5%. A freelancer can build those once, and you can run them yourself.
  • In-house: email is mature and high-volume. Sturtevant recommends 5–7 campaigns a week for eight-figure brands, and that cadence justifies dedicated staff who know your catalog and calendar.
  • An agency: nobody owns retention, your flow count sits near the 4-6 typical brand, or you want a guarantee in writing. Month-to-month terms make this a low-commitment test.

Questions founders ask us

Can I start with an agency and move in-house later?

Yes. Blossom is month-to-month with no long-term contracts, so nothing locks you in. Many brands use an agency to build the lifecycle foundation, then reassess once email revenue and team capacity justify a full-time hire.

Is a freelancer enough for Klaviyo?

For the core flows, often yes. Welcome, cart abandonment, browse abandonment and win-back are well-defined builds. A freelancer is a weaker fit when you need ongoing campaign strategy, testing and SMS coordination every week.

How do I judge whether an agency is working?

Ask for a written target and a deadline. Blossom's is +20% attributed Klaviyo revenue within 90 days, or it works free until achieved. Also track flow count, flow revenue share and deliverability against Klaviyo's published benchmarks.
